How We Set Goals (& Stick To Them)
I used to think New Year’s Resolutions were so cheesy and I always wondered, why wait for a New Year to go after what you want. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found there is something so exciting about the idea of reflecting, starting fresh, and checking in with myself. To me, the New Year isn’t about waiting to start something, it’s about celebrating last year’s wins, looking forward to where I want to be in a year, and setting goals and making plans for how to get there.
Goal setting has truly become a highlight of my months and years. At the beginning of the year, I write out my annual goals and then each month I break them down and do little check-ins. It is truly my favorite time of the month to sit down and reflect, and it helps me get out of a rut when I’m able to check things off and realize that even one step forward is still progress. Here is the system I follow religiously! Let’s make 2023 our bitch!
Schedule time for goal setting: celebrate milestones that have been achieved, think about where you want to be, and write your goals down.
Make a timeline for when you think these goals can realistically be achieved by.
Make a plan of action with steps you can immediately start taking.
Set a check-in date before you plan to achieve the goal so that you can confirm whether or not you are on track or need to pivot.
Have fun looking back on what you’ve accomplished and give yourself a “treat” for when you achieve your goal!
